W Retreat & Residences–Koh Samui will be W's first Retreat & Residences Product in Thailand & it's third retreat in the world, following W Maldives which opened in September 2006 and W Vieques, scheduled to open in late 2007. Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand, 435 miles south of Bangkok, and is the third largest Thai island, following Phuket and Koh Chang.

The newly built 70-villa W Retreat & Residences–Koh Samui will cater to upscale leisure travelers when it opens in late 2008. There will also be approximately 20 luxury residential villas on the grounds of the retreat that will be available for purchase.

Koh Samui is known as one of the most popular island destinations in Thailand. W Koh Samui will be located on a 26 acre site on Maenam Beach, at the north shore of Koh Samui, arguably the best location on Koh Samui, given its secluded beach and interesting topography which will provide all rooms with excellent views. Maenam is one of the island's more secluded and private beaches and offers one of the best windsurfing and snorkeling sites, as well as intimate restaurants in the village. Maenam is also within close proximity to the Koh Samui airport, golf course and Chaweng town.


The retreat will feature 70 villas, each approximately 1,722 square feet (160 square meters ), W's signature Living Room and lounge, one signature restaurant, a pool bar and a signature spa. Guests can indulge in W's infamous beds as well as be treated to W's signature Whatever/Whenever service commitment, the hotel's 24-hour concierge that provides guests with whatever they want, whenever they want it.

Recreational facilities will include a health club and a 1,500-square meter spa with eight treatment rooms as well as an indoor swimming pool. Other amenities will include a gift shop and business center.


For conferences and social events, the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel will have 2,189-square meters of flexible meeting space featuring a 1,262-square meter grand ballroom that will be divisible into five sections. A 270-square meter junior ballroom as well as a 104-square meter meeting room will each be divisible into two sections. The hotel will have five additional meeting rooms and a board room.

The Marriott International hotel portfolio in Beijing currently consists of the Renaissance Beijing Hotel, Beijing Marriott Hotel West, the New World Courtyard Beijing, the Beijing Palm Spring Marriott Executive Apartments and the New World Jing Guang Hotel. Under construction are the JW Marriott Hotel Beijing and the Courtyard by Marriott Beijing Northeast, both of which are expected to open in early 2008.


Marriott’s Renaissance brand portfolio in Shanghai currently consists of the 370-room Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel and the 544-room Renaissance Shanghai Yangtze Hotel. The 327-room Renaissance Shanghai Yuyan Hotel is currently under construction and is expected to open in 2007.

Other Renaissance-branded hotels in China include the 212-room Renaissance Beijing Hotel, the 377-room

Renaissance Suzhou Hotel, the 273-room Renaissance Tianjin Hotel, and the 543-room Renaissance Tianjin TEDA hotel. Additional Renaissance-branded hotels under construction in China include the 289-room Renaissance Wuhan Hotel, scheduled to open in early 2007; and the 540-room Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel which will open in mid-2008.
